We have imbued its expansion design for Osvaldo Vieira Airport (OXB) with the arches and curves endemic to architecture within a dramatic, 20m-high space topped by a roof resembling a giant wings. Glazed openings filter daylight and deflect direct solar radiation — vital considerations in one of the hottest places on earth. The new airport aims to create a regional air hub for the world by significantly increasing capacity with a trefoil comprising four symmetrical wings of departure gates. Tapered columns, supporting an entrance plaza awash in curves, are inspired by the contrast between the solidity of stone.
